8:00 AM – Breakfast at Phyl’s All Day Breakfast and Lunch
Start your day with breakfast at Phyl’s, a classic family spot located just 10 minutes from the tourist area. They serve breakfast and lunch until 2 PM, offering a good selection of North American breakfasts and lunch sandwiches.
I’ve had their classic breakfast with eggs, homefries, and ham and it was great!

9:00 AM – Journey Behind the Falls
Begin your Niagara Falls experience with the iconic Journey Behind the Falls. Located in the Table Rock Centre, you’ll descend 125 feet through tunnels under the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. One tunnel extends behind the curtain of water, while another leads to an observation deck beside the Falls.
I put this attraction first in the day because it gets ridiculously busy in the summer afternoons! Go early!
🤩 Want a small group tour that skips the line at Journey Behind the Falls? This was my tour and it’s the fasted way to enjoy this attraction when it’s busy, as well as the Skylon Tower and the Niagara boat cruise.

10:00 AM – Stroll Along the Niagara Parkway
After your subterranean adventure, enjoy a leisurely walk along the Niagara Parkway. This scenic route offers ever-changing views of both the Horseshoe and American Falls. The park is adorned with vibrant flowers and benches, providing ample opportunities to rest and capture stunning photographs.

11:00 AM – Niagara City Boat Cruise
No trip to Niagara Falls is complete without a boat ride into the mist. Formerly known as the Maid of the Mist, then the Hornblower, the boat tour is run by Niagara City Cruises. It takes you past the American Falls and into the heart of the Horseshoe Falls.
Prepare to get wet and get up close and personal with the power of the Falls.

Lunch: 12:30 PM – Choose a Local or Chain Option
After your boat ride, it’s time to refuel. You have two great options depending on your preference:
Option 1: Kelsey’s Original Roadhouse (Clifton Hill)
Located just a short walk up Clifton Hill, Kelsey’s offers a casual atmosphere. It has a reliable menu with burgers, wraps, and hearty entrées. It’s a convenient choice if you want to stay near the action.
Option 2: Doc Magilligan’s (Lundy’s Lane)
For a more local experience, head to Doc Magilligan’s, a cozy Irish pub on Lundy’s Lane. With its delicious food, live music, and excellent drink selection, this spot is a bit far but worth the trip for a more local experience. This is my favourite pub in Niagara Falls.

2:00 PM – Visit the Niagara Whirlpool
After lunch, hop in your car or take the WEGO bus to head to the Niagara Whirlpool. You can enjoy the stunning views for FREE from two excellent vantage points:
- Whirlpool Aero Car: This historic cable car takes you high above the Whirlpool, offering unmatched aerial views. Even if you don’t want the 10 minute ride, the observation deck near the station provides fantastic sights for free.
- WildPlay Adventure Course: Underneath this thrilling zipline and obstacle course, you’ll find another free observation deck overlooking the Whirlpool.
The Niagara Whirlpool is a natural phenomenon that’s just as awe-inspiring as Niagara Falls, though less famous. It’s the only counter-clockwise whirlpool in North America, created by a dramatic 90-degree bend in the Niagara River. As the powerful current has swirled for 1200 years, it has eroded the cliffside, creating a massive bay over time.
Fun fact: The currents here are considered even more dangerous than those at Niagara Falls!
This stop is an unforgettable way to deepen your connection to the natural beauty and raw power of the Niagara River.

3:00 PM – Explore the Butterfly Conservatory and Botanical Gardens
It’s time to experience the serene beauty of the Butterfly Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. Continue along the scenic Niagara Parkway to reach the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens. Wander this sprawling 100-acre paradise of meticulously curated gardens and towering trees. Take some time to wander through this peaceful, free attraction and soak in the natural beauty.
At the heart of the gardens lies the Butterfly Conservatory. This tropical oasis that’s warm and dry, no matter the weather. This dome-shaped greenhouse is home to around 2,000 butterflies from 40 species, fluttering freely through a lush environment of tropical plants. The conservatory is kept at a balmy 27°C year-round, creating the perfect conditions for its delicate inhabitants.

4:00 PM – Visit the Floral Clock and Power Stations
For your next stop, continue down the picturesque Niagara Parkway to visit two unique landmarks: the Floral Clock and the nearby Hydroelectric Power Stations. This stretch of your day combines engineering marvels with natural beauty, offering a fascinating glimpse into the area’s history.
The Power Stations: A Look at Energy in Action
As you head toward the Floral Clock, you’ll pass two active hydroelectric power plants:
- The Adam Beck Power Stations (Canada)
- The Robert Moses Power Plant (USA)
These hydroelectric power generating stations, built between the 1920s and 1960s, play a vital role in supplying electricity to Ontario and New York State. They’re the only remaining operational hydroelectric plants in Niagara Falls, and the international border runs right through the river between them.
Pro Tip
You can stop and park for a closer look, but the views as you drive along the Parkway are pretty impressive too. The Adam Beck Stations, in particular, showcase a mix of historic architecture and modern innovation.

The Floral Clock: A Botanical Masterpiece
Just after passing the Adam Beck Power Station, turn left into the second one-way driveway to reach the Niagara Parks Floral Clock. This iconic landmark is more than just a giant clock—it’s a work of living art, featuring a 40-foot-wide clock face covered in thousands of vibrant flowers and plants.
🌸 What makes it special?
- The intricate floral designs are replanted twice a year, ensuring a fresh, seasonal display every visit.
- The clock houses Westminster chimes that ring every 15 minutes, adding a touch of music to your stop.
- It’s one of the largest floral clocks in the world, making it a fantastic photo opportunity.
Next to the clock, you’ll find public washrooms and a small snack and gift shop—perfect for a quick break.

Dinner: Table Rock House Restaurant
For dinner, my top recommendation is the Table Rock House Restaurant, offering the closest dining experience to Niagara Falls you can get.
To wrap up your day, return to where you started, but this time, take the escalators up to the restaurant. Here, you’ll enjoy not just incredible food and drinks but also the most stunning views of the Falls.
Pro Tip
Reservations are highly recommended to secure a table during weekends and the summer high season.
The menu highlights superb cuisine with a focus on locally sourced ingredients. In fact, the restaurant guarantees that 50% of its food and 90% of its beverages come from Ontario, making this a meal you can feel good about. I’ve had the salmon here and it was so good!
Dining at Table Rock House Restaurant is the perfect way to end your day, combining unforgettable scenery with a true taste of Ontario.

Where to Stay in Niagara Falls
If you decide that 1 day in Niagara Falls is just not enough, then here are my top recommendations for hotels in Niagara Falls. Please note, there are two major areas with hotels: in what I like to call the Tourism Core, and further into the city, mostly on Lundy’s Lane. The Tourism Core is a bit more expensive because it’s super close to the Falls.
Best Hotel in the Tourism Core: Marriott Fallsview Hotel & Spa
For a luxurious stay in the heart of Niagara Falls’ tourism centre, the Marriott Fallsview Hotel & Spa is hard to beat. Located right next to Fallsview Casino and steps from top restaurants and major attractions, this hotel offers convenience and comfort with a touch of indulgence.
The views from your room or suite are phenomenal—think panoramic vistas of the Falls, nightly illuminations, and even fireworks, all from the comfort of your space. Treat yourself to a spa experience on-site for the ultimate relaxation after a day of exploring. This classic destination is a must for making your Niagara Falls visit unforgettable!

Best Budget Stay on Lundy’s Lane: the Comfort Inn
The Comfort Inn on Lundy’s Lane is a fantastic choice for budget-conscious travelers who still want comfort and convenience. Located just a short drive from the Falls, this hotel offers easy access to major attractions while staying slightly removed from the busy tourist centre.
With clean, cozy rooms and a welcoming atmosphere, it’s perfect for a relaxing stay. It even has an indoor pool and hot tub, which were clean and a highlight that my family and I really enjoyed. If you’re looking for affordability without sacrificing quality, the Comfort Inn on Lundy’s Lane is a solid choice for your Niagara Falls getaway!

Getting Around Niagara Falls
Navigating Niagara Falls is easy, with two main options: driving or using the WEGO bus system. Driving offers flexibility, but keep in mind that parking can add up, as you’ll need to pay at most attractions and sites.
Alternatively, the WEGO bus system is a convenient and cost-effective way to get around. This hop-on, hop-off service connects all the major attractions, hotels, and restaurants. WEGO tickets are only sold as day passes, costing about $15 CAD per adult, but you can opt for a 2-day pass for just $17 CAD per adult, making it great value if you’re staying overnight.

🤩 Or book a small group tour and have the driving and parking taken care of!
